Welcome to Early Years Alliance Careers

Our vision is a society where every child enjoys the opportunity to learn through play.

We believe families should be at the centre of policymaking and empowered to become fully involved with their child’s learning and development.

Belle Tutaev

About us

The Early Years Alliance was started in 1961 by a young London mother called Belle Tutaev who set up a playgroup of her own when she couldn’t find a state nursery place for her daughter.

Within a year, Belle had rallied 150 other parents together to form the Pre-school Playgroups Association, as we used to be known, and a year after that we became a charity — and we’ve been educating and caring for children and championing the voice of the early years sector ever since.

Our vision is a society where children enjoy every opportunity to learn through play and where they and their families are placed at the heart of education policy.

We manage early years settings across the country, providing early education and care to thousands of children and their families whom we encourage to become fully involved in their child’s learning and development.

We are the largest and most representative early years membership organisation in England, representing 14,000 members and supporting them to deliver care and learning to more than 800,000 families every year.

We are proud to

Directly manage high-quality early years provision, as well as running and supporting family services, across the country
Offer information and advice to our members
Produce specialist publications
Offer business support to early years providers
Run acclaimed training schemes
Campaign to influence early years policy and practice.

We are a registered charity, independent of political or other influences, operating under inclusive and democratic principles.

The Alliance is made up of seven directorates, each with its own responsibilities but all working together to achieve our aim of supporting the health, wellbeing and learning of young children, their families and the wider early years workforce. These are:

Business development
Children’s services
Communications and external affairs
Finance
Membership and customer services
People and technology
Quality improvement.

The heads of each directorate, alongside Alliance chief executive Neil Leitch, make up the Alliance’s Operational Management Group.

As chief executive, Neil is responsible for the overarching performance of the charity and reports to the Board of Trustees.
