About The Role

We are recruiting additional flexi workers in our children's centres, to provide cover as required for reception duties and administrative work.

The role will be based in children's centres across the London Borough of Lewisham, and applicants should be available to work flexibly each week, sometimes at short notice.

Main duties of the role

  • To provide general administrative support in the Children and Family Centres and other delivery spaces, as well as online, as directed by the line manager. This may include, but is not limited to: 
    • Taking phone calls and passing on messages
    • Photocopying and laminating
    • Setting up and maintaining filing systems
    • Printing and collating papers
    • Processing incoming and outgoing post and emails
    • Preparing rooms, IT and resources for internal meetings
    • Preparing packs of information for courses and external events
    • Stock control, organising and cataloguing of play materials and resources
    • Supporting online bookings, telephone bookings and in-person bookings
    • Entering data into the central database
    • Keeping reception area, kitchen area and cupboards tidy and accessible
    • Ensuring leaflet stocks are maintained, and noticeboards kept up to date
    • Carrying out daily safety checks
  • To provide cover for reception in the centres in case of staff absence due to holiday, sickness or training, providing a friendly and welcoming service to families, colleagues and visitors.
  • To enter registration forms, contact sheets and other data on to the database, as directed by the line manager.

Essential criteria

  • Possess recent experience in administrative or clerical work.
  • Possess good numeracy skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent and proven ability to use Microsoft Excel, Publisher and Word, databases and the internet and emails confidently and effectively.
  • Have the ability to be organised, methodical and able to work independently on own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate understanding of working sensitively and respectfully with vulnerable families within a diverse urban community.

All successful applicants will be required to register and subscribe with the DBS Update Service (if you have not already done so) and undertake a new enhanced disclosure and barring check (even if you have an existing DBS Certificate).
